FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you work online or in person?
I work primarily online via video consultation, allowing me to support clients across the UK and internationally from the comfort of their own home.
For clients who prefer to meet in person, consultations from my clinic in Marylebone, London are available on request.
Do I need blood testing before booking?
No, you do not need to have blood tests before booking.
However, if you have had any recent blood work, hormone testing, semen analysis or other relevant investigations, these can be very helpful and I encourage you to share them before your consultation.
Where additional testing may be helpful, I will always look at what can reasonably be requested through your NHS GP first.
Some functional or more specialised tests are not routinely available on the NHS and may need to be accessed privately.
As private testing can become costly, I only recommend additional testing where I feel it is genuinely necessary and likely to provide meaningful clinical insight that could influence your protocol or treatment plan.
Do you offer functional testing?
I do not carry out functional testing directly.
However, where clinically appropriate, I may recommend specific functional or diagnostic testing through trusted third-party providers, and I can help interpret the results within the context of your health and fertility journey.
This allows us to gain deeper insights into areas such as nutrient status, gut health, hormones, blood sugar regulation and overall metabolic health where needed.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends entirely on your goals, health history and the complexity of your case.
Some clients benefit from a single in-depth consultation and feel confident implementing recommendations independently.
Others, particularly those with more complex fertility challenges such as PCOS, unexplained or secondary infertility, recurrent miscarriage or IVF preparation, often benefit from ongoing support over several months.
Because both egg and sperm quality develop over approximately 90 days, meaningful changes in reproductive health often take time. This is why many clients choose my Ultimate Fertility Package, which provides comprehensive support over this important window.
When is the best time to start working with a fertility nutritionist?
Ideally, at least 3 months before trying to conceive, starting IVF, or planning an embryo transfer.
This is because both egg and sperm quality develop over approximately 90 days, meaning the choices you make now can influence reproductive health in the months ahead.
That said, it is never too late to make supportive changes, and I work with clients at every stage of their fertility journey.
Can you support clients undergoing IVF?
Yes, absolutely.
Nutrition and lifestyle can play an important role in optimising your health before and during IVF treatment.
I frequently support clients preparing for egg collection, embryo transfer and implantation, with personalised strategies designed to support egg quality, sperm quality, metabolic health, hormone balance and overall resilience throughout the process.
Do you support male fertility?
Yes, absolutely, and this is something I feel strongly about.
Male fertility is 50% of the picture, yet it is often overlooked.
In most cases, I believe it is essential to consider the health of both partners involved in creating a baby, as sperm quality can significantly influence fertility, embryo quality and pregnancy outcomes.
Of course, every situation is different. In cases involving donor conception, same-sex couples, or where embryos have already been created through IVF and male factor is no longer relevant, the focus may be solely on the individual carrying the pregnancy.
Do you provide supplement recommendations?
Yes. Where appropriate, I provide personalised supplement recommendations based on your health history, symptoms, diet, blood work and fertility goals.
I always aim to keep supplementation targeted and purposeful rather than overwhelming or excessive.
Clients also receive 15% off supplements and wellness products through my practitioner account with The Natural Dispensary using discount code JL15.
Do I need to completely change my diet?
No. My approach is not about perfection, restriction or following rigid food rules.
I focus on realistic, sustainable changes that fit your lifestyle, preferences and family life.
Nutrition should support your life, not add unnecessary stress or overwhelm.
Is nutrition enough to fix my fertility issues?
Fertility is complex, and nutrition is rarely the whole picture.
While nutrition and lifestyle can have a profound impact on hormone balance, metabolic health, egg quality, sperm quality and pregnancy outcomes, they are not a guarantee of conception and cannot solve every fertility challenge.
My aim is not to promise outcomes or quick fixes, but to help optimise the factors within our control and support your body as effectively as possible.
Even when medical intervention is needed, good nutrition can help improve resilience and support better outcomes.
Do you offer support during pregnancy and postpartum?
Yes, absolutely.
Supporting women through pregnancy and into the postpartum period has been a natural evolution of my practice over the years. As many of my fertility clients conceived, I naturally continued working with them throughout pregnancy and well beyond birth, and this has become an area of work I truly love.
This may include support with:
- Meeting increased nutritional demands during pregnancy
- Supplement guidance
- Blood sugar balance
- Energy and wellbeing
- Postpartum recovery
- Breastfeeding nutrition
- Replenishing nutrient stores after birth
I am passionate about supporting women not just to conceive, but to feel nourished, supported and well throughout the entire journey into motherhood.
